Yankton, South Dakota: A woman was arrested at her step son's Boy Scout meeting. While watching a policeman demonstrate his drug dog's ability, the dog found a bag of grass in her purse.
 
Colorado Springs: A guy walked into a little corner store with a shotgun and demanded all the cash from the cash drawer. After the cashier put the cash in a bag, the robber saw a bottle of scotch that he wanted behind the counter on the shelf.
He told the cashier to put it in the bag as well, but he refused and said "Because I don't believe you are over 21."
The robber said he was, but the clerk still refused to give it to him because he didn't believe him. At this point the robber took his driver’s license out of his wallet and gave it to the clerk. The clerk looked it over, and agreed that the man was in fact over 21 and he put the scotch in the bag. The robber then ran from the store with his loot.
The cashier promptly called the police and gave the name and address of the robber that he got off the license. They arrested the robber two hours later.
 
A woman was reporting her car as stolen and mentioned that there was a car phone in it. The policeman taking the report called the phone and told the guy that answered that he had read the ad in the newspaper and wanted to buy the car. They arranged to meet, and the thief was arrested.
 
San Francisco: A man, wanting to rob a downtown Bank of America, walked into the branch and wrote "this iz a stikkup.Put all your muny in this bag."
While standing in line, waiting to give his note to the teller, he began to worry that someone had seen him write the note and might call the police before he reached the teller window. So he left the Bank of America and crossed the street to Wells Fargo.
After waiting a few minutes in line, he handed his note to the Wells Fargo teller. She read it and, surmising from his spelling errors that he was not the brightest light in the harbor, told him that she could not accept his stickup note because it was written on a Bank of America deposit slip and that he would either have to fill out a Wells Fargo deposit slip or go back to Bank of America. Looking somewhat defeated, the man said "OK" and left.
The Wells Fargo teller then called the police who arrested the man a few minutes later, as he was waiting in line back at Bank of America.
 
From England: A motorist was unknowingly caught in an automated speed trap that measured his speed using radar and photographed his car.
He later received in the mail a ticket for 40 Pounds and a photo of his car. Instead of payment, he sent the police department a photograph of 40 Pounds. Several days later, he received a letter from the police that contained another picture...of handcuffs. The motorist promptly sent the money for the fine.
 
Drug Possession Defendant Christopher Jansen, on trial in March in Pontiac, Michigan, said he had been searched without a warrant.  The prosecutor said the officer didn't need a warrant because a "bulge" in Christopher's jacket could have been a gun.
"Nonsense," said Christopher, who happened to be wearing the same jacket that day in court. He handed it over so the judge could see it. The judge discovered a packet of cocaine in the pocket and laughed so hard he required a five minute recess to compose himself.
 
Oklahoma City: Dennis Newton was on trial for the armed robbery of a convenience store in district court when he fired his lawyer. Assistant district attorney Larry Jones said Newton, 47, was doing a fair job of defending himself until the store manager testified that Newton was the
robber. Newton jumped up, accused the woman of lying and then said, "I should have blown your fucking head off." The defendant paused, then quickly added, "If I'd been the one that was there." The jury took 20 minutes to convict Newton and recommended a 30-year sentence.
 
Detroit: R.C. Gaitlan, 21, walked up to two patrol officers who were showing their squad car computer felon-location equipment to children in a Detroit neighborhood. When he asked how the system worked, the officer asked him for identification. Gaitlan gave them his driver’s license, they entered it into the computer, and moments later they arrested Gaitlan because information on the screen showed Gaitlan was wanted for a two-year-old armed robbery in St. Louis, Missouri.
 
Another from Detroit: A pair of Michigan robbers entered a record shop nervously waving revolvers. The first one shouted, "Nobody move!" When his partner moved, the startled first bandit shot him.
 
THE WINNER
A Charlotte, NC, man having purchased a case of very rare, very expensive cigars insured them against fire among other things. Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of cigars and without having made even his first premium payment on the policy, the man filed a claim
against the insurance company. In his claim, the man stated the cigars were lost "in a series of small fires." The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion. The man sued.... and won. In delivering the ruling
the judge agreeing that the claim was frivolous, stated nevertheless that the man held a policy from the company in which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure against fire, without defining what it considered to be “unacceptable fire," and was obligated to pay the claim. Rather than endure a lengthy and costly appeal process the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid the man $15,000 for the rare cigars he lost in "the fires." After the man cashed the check, however, the company had him arrested on 24 counts of arson. With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used against him, the man was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine.

Rule One:

If you pull into my driveway and honk you'd better be delivering a package, because you're sure not picking anything up.

Rule Two:

You do not touch my daughter in front of me. You may glance at her, so long as you do not peer at anything below her neck. If you cannot keep your eyes or hands off of my daughter's body, I will remove them.

Rule Three:

I am aware that it is considered fashionable for boys of your age to wear their trousers so loosely that they appear to be falling off their hips.  Please don't take this as an insult, but you and all of your friends are complete idiots. Still, I want to be fair and open minded about this issue, so I propose this compromise: You may come to the door with your underwear showing and your pants ten sizes too big, and I will not object. However, in order to ensure that your clothes do not, in fact, come off during the course of your date with my daughter, I will take my electric nail gun and fasten your trousers securely in place to your waist.

Rule Four:

I'm sure you've been told that in today's world, sex without utilizing a "barrier method" of some kind can kill you. Let me elaborate, when it comes to sex, I am the barrier, and I will kill you.

Rule Five:

It is usually understood that in order for us to get to know each other, we should talk about sports, politics, and other issues of the day. Please do not do this. The only information I require from you is an indication of when you expect to have my daughter safely back at my house, and the only word I need from you on this subject is "early."

Rule Six:

I have no doubt you are a popular fellow, with many opportunities to date other girls. This is fine with me as long as it is okay with my daughter.  Otherwise, once you have gone out with my little girl, you will continue to date no one but her until she is finished with you. If you make her cry, I will make you cry.

Rule Seven:

As you stand in my front hallway, waiting for my daughter to appear, and more than an hour goes by, do not sigh and fidget. If you want to be on time for the movie, you should not be dating. My daughter is putting on her makeup, a process that can take longer than painting the Golden Gate Bridge. Instead of just standing there, why don't you do something useful, like changing the oil in my car?

Rule Eight:

The following places are not appropriate for a date with my daughter:

Places where there are beds, sofas, or anything softer than a wooden stool.

Places where there are no parents, policemen, or nuns within eyesight.

Places where there is darkness. Places where there is dancing, holding hands, or happiness. Places where the ambient temperature is warm enough to induce my daughter to wear shorts, tank tops, midriff T-shirts, or anything other than overalls, a sweater, and a goose down parka - zipped up to her throat. Movies with a strong romantic or sexual theme are to be avoided; movies which features chain saws are okay. Hockey games are okay. Old folks homes are better.

Rule Nine:

Do not lie to me. I may appear to be a potbellied, middle-aged, dimwitted has-been. But on issues relating to my daughter, I am the all-knowing, merciless god of your universe. If I ask you where you are going and with whom, you have one chance to tell me the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I have a shotgun, a shovel, and five acres behind the house. Do not trifle with me.

Rule Ten:

Surprised while burgling a house in Antwerp, Belgium, a thief fled out the back door, clambered over a nine-foot wall, dropped down the other side, and found himself in the city prison.

In Bermuda in 1975 a man on a motor scooter was knocked down and killed by a taxi. Exactly a year earlier the same driver in the same taxi, carrying the same passenger, had knocked down and killed the motor-scooter rider's brother, on the same street, riding the same scooter.

An American tourist in South America had the decidedly grave misfortune to be attacked by Killer bees as he stood on the bank of the Amazon.  Seeking refuge, he leaped into the river and was devoured by piranha fish.

A Malaysian monkey that had been trained to gather coconuts from trees demonstrated a pressing need for a refresher course when it leaped onto the shoulders of a passer-by in Kuala Lumpur and tried to twist his head off. The passer-by was treated at a local hospital for a sprained neck.

In Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a sixteen-year-old youth was charged with beating up his fifteen-year-old wife after the latter hid the caps to his toy pistol.

A man who shovelled snow for an hour to clear a space for his car during a blizzard in Chicago returned with his vehicle to find a woman had taken the space. Understandably, he shot her dead.

After shooting and wounding his wife and young son, Louis Pilar of Rheims, France, told police that a three-week strike by television technicians was to blame. 'There was nothing to look at,' he explained, 'and I was bored.
Fortunately his wife did not seem to mind being shot at. From her hospital bed she said: 'I don't blame my husband. It really was very boring in the evenings.'

Islam

Islam is not a religion, nor is it a cult. In its fullest form, it is a complete, total, 100% system of life.

 
Islam has religious, legal, political, economic, social, and military components. The religious component is a beard for all of the other components.

Islamization begins when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to agitate for their religious privileges.

When politically correct, tolerant, and culturally diverse societies agree to Muslim demands for their religious privileges, some of the other components tend to creep in as well.

 
Here's how it works.

As long as the Muslim population remains around or under 2% in any given country, they will be for the most part be regarded as a peace-loving minority, and not as a threat to other citizens. This is the case in:

United States -- Muslim 0.6%
Australia -- Muslim 1.5%
Canada -- Muslim 1.9%
China -- Muslim 1.8%
Italy -- Muslim 1.5%
Norway -- Muslim 1.8%

 
At 2% to 5%, they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups, often with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs. This is happening in:

Denmark -- Muslim 2%
Germany -- Muslim 3.7%
United Kingdom -- Muslim 2.7%
Spain -- Muslim 4%
Thailand -- Muslim 4.6%

 
From 5% on, they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. For example, they will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature halal on their shelves -- along with threats for failure to comply. This is occurring in:

France -- Muslim 8%
Philippines -- Muslim 5%
Sweden -- Muslim 5%
Switzerland -- Muslim 4.3%
The Netherlands -- Muslim 5.5%
Trinidad & Tobago -- Muslim 5.8%

At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves (within their ghettos) under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islamists is to establish Sharia law over the entire world.

 
When Muslims approach 10% of the population, they tend to increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions. In Paris , we are already seeing car-burnings. Any non-Muslim action offends Islam, and results in uprisings and threats, such as in Amsterdam , with opposition to Mohammed cartoons and films about Islam. Such tensions are seen daily, particularly in Muslim sections, in:

Guyana -- Muslim 10%
India -- Muslim 13.4%
Israel -- Muslim 16%
Kenya -- Muslim 10%
Russia -- Muslim 15%

 
After reaching 20%, nations can expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings, and the burnings of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues, such as in:

Ethiopia -- Muslim 32.8%

 
At 40%, nations experience widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks, and ongoing militia warfare, such as in:

Bosnia -- Muslim 40%
Chad -- Muslim 53.1%
Lebanon -- Muslim 59.7%

 
From 60%, nations experience unfettered persecution of non-believers of all other religions (including non-conforming Muslims), sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon, and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels, such as in:

Malaysia -- Muslim 60.4%
Qatar -- Muslim 77.5%

100% will usher in the peace of 'Dar-es-Salaam' -- the Islamic House of Peace. Here there's supposed to be peace, because everybody is a Muslim, the Madrasses are the only schools, and the Koran is the only word, such as in:

Afghanistan -- Muslim 100%
Saudi Arabia -- Muslim 100%
Somalia -- Muslim 100%
Yemen -- Muslim 100%

Unfortunately, peace is never achieved, as in these 100% states the most radical Muslims intimidate and spew hatred, and satisfy their blood lust by killing less radical Muslims, for a variety of reasons.

It is important to understand that in some countries, with well under 100% Muslim populations, such as France, the minority Muslim populations live in ghettos, within which they are 100% Muslim, and within which they live by Sharia Law. The national police do not even enter these ghettos. There are no national courts, nor schools, nor non-Muslim religious facilities. In such situations, Muslims do not integrate into the community at large. The children attend madrasses. They learn only the Koran. To even associate with an infidel is a crime punishable with death. Therefore, in some areas of certain nations, Muslim Imams and extremists exercise more power than the national average would indicate.

Today's 1.5 billion Muslims make up 22% of the world's population. But their birth rates dwarf the birth rates of Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and all other believers. Muslims will exceed 50% of the world's population by the end of this century.

You arogant bastard, you slimy piece of shit. How dare you compare people who critisize you with wife beaters? I challenge you to come and say that to my face you ball-less pathetic excuse of a man.

Go ahead asshole, come and say it to my face if you have the guts. You think you can just say anything you want because you are protected as a minister?

Yes, as minister of Culture I want to preserve the inheritance of our forefathers, therefore we have 'het Topstukkendecreet' and there are all kinds of actions around heritage, like 'Erfgoeddag'.

Mr. Minister,

I have received your pathetic reply to my letter of January 27th. That you don’t agree with me is not surprising. You have your agenda to worry about and to please the politically correct crowd.

We would never concur in any case as I see the problems first hand at grassroots level every single day while you reside in cloud cuckoo land.

You are free to disagree with me as, for now at least, Belgium seems to still be paying lip service to this form of democracy.

Even so, apart from your dissent you never once touched on any of the questions and/or statements I put to you. Furthermore, it took you a month to construct this reply of a few lines to my original letter, while my friends who also wrote to you got theirs within a week. Maybe that was because they were more diplomatic in their approach while mine was straight to the point.

Unlike you I do know what I am talking about when I touched on the subject of our culture being overrun by this backward and anachronistic religion and its rules.

Of the thirty years I was away I have lived sixteen of those years in a predominantly Islamic neighborhood. Needless to say I didn’t have to try even 1% of the stuff the Muslims in Belgium are doing.

Try and build a church in an Islamic country, or just steal something, or try to have a friendship or relationship with a Moslima. Do I have to paint a picture?

I had returned but four days to this country when some of these so-called “disadvantaged youths” tried a violent approach with me. They outnumbered me 5 to 1. Two of those needed medical treatment afterwards.

My own mother was attacked, stabbed, and robbed by that scum. My nephew and niece beaten by a group of those peace-loving followers of the Koran. They operate in groups like the cowards they are.

Where do you live Mr. Minister? I just bet its far away from the ordinary people who live with similar problems every day.

When are you going to see that what you and your incompetent colleagues are saying, and what actually happens are two different things?

Of course getting things done at governmental level is like mating elephants; done at high level with lots of noise and taking years to produce results.

I have not the slightest respect for you and your colleagues who are selling their own people to safeguard their well-paid jobs.

An ordinary working person can’t afford to make one mistake or they are fired, yet the government piles on blunder after blunder without anyone so much as receiving a reprimand.

There are members of Islamic terrorist cells running around free. Bus drivers and their passengers are beaten nearly on a daily basis by “youths”. Serious criminals, foreign born, are roaming the streets without fear of arrest. People who are illegal immigrants protest on our streets freely without arrest. Tell me Mr. Minister, what part of “illegal” is it that you don’t understand? All they have to do is yell “Discrimination!” and you and those incompetents in our government piss their pants.

But let some poor countryman of mine exceed the speed limit by 5km per hour and the law will come down on them like a ton of bricks. You get less jail time here for killing someone than for exceeding the speed limit or to drive through a red traffic light.

Thousands of Islamic protesters are allowed to proceed and trash our cities, and not one arrest was made where the perpetrators were actually locked up. I seem to remember a handful of Flemings trying to organize a protest march against the Islamic influence in our society which was then clubbed apart by hastily called-up Walloon policemen calling them all sorts of vile names. Let me just state here that I do not belong to any political organization, nor have I ever. I am just making a comparison.

People who do not agree with your colleagues and yourself are dismissed as agitators while time and time again this nauseating policy of “multi-culturalism” is rammed down our throats.

Could I do better if I were in your shoes I hear you ask?. Damn right I can!

Unlike you and your cowardly colleagues I have been on the front line in the struggle against terrorism. Unlike you I have seen first hand what fundamentalists do to those they consider “Kafir” (unbelievers). Unlike you I paid my dues in blood, sweat, and tears.

You are not a leader, nor are your fellow ministers.

The lot of you couldn’t organize a piss-up in a brewery. I have no respect for you and that crowd. If you had been my commander in the field I wouldn’t wait for the enemy to take you out, I’d do it myself.

To quote Churchill: An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile hoping it will eat him last.

Whatever happened to the people who once stood against Ceasar’s legions forcing him to admit that of all the Gallic tribes the Belgians were the most fierce? Am I not descended from those same people like Karel Martel who stopped the first Islamic invasion? Does the blood of Jan Breydel and Pieter de Coninck not stream through my veins? Yes it does! But apparently not through yours.

I will never give in to a foreign influence and most certainly not when ordered by Quislings like our government ministers. I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees.

We have become prisoners in our own homes as it is no longer safe to go out on the streets. Some sections of our cities are already no-go areas where even the police fear to go. And still you do nothing! Nothing but make absurd statements to get your mug into the newspapers. You go on deciding to be undecided. At least I know who I am and where I’m going. The same cannot be said of you. To our “leaders” I say in the immortal words of the Vietnam tunnel rats: Non gratum anus rodentum!

Referring to your statement above I consider this very irresponsible especially from someone in your position. I wonder why you make that comparison in the first place. It is totally out of place and despicable to use a drama, others have done the same during the remembrance speeches for the toddlers and their caretaker and maybe you thought it necessary to highlight it much more.

I wonder what measures you use and based on what information you speak of and judge Israel and Gaza, or rather prejudge. Your words do not testify of thorough knowledge but rather of one sided, limited and faulty information which you seem to copy blindly.

During two years I have lived in Israel and have had firsthand knowledge of the situation there. This makes me feel more apt to talk about Israel and its population, more so than those who spent a few days or even weeks attending meetings in Israel or journalists whom during a limited stay send a little news to the world, or as government representatives from any State, or Europe, giving lopsided news.

From all the countries where I lived and had the opportunity to get to know the indigenous population from close by I can assure you that Israel has the most peace loving population. It is Israel which is always attacked, not the "others". Israel has the right to defend itself and its population. Every State has the duty to protect the safety of its inhabitants, or maybe you feel that Israel should have a self-destruct attitude?

 Dear Sir,

 For nearly three decades I have lived abroad. Away from the country of my birth. I was born in Flanders, and now for the past 3 years I have returned here.

All this time I was unable to use the language of my birth and it is not surprising therefore that I write to you in English as it is best suited to express myself.

You are telling us on your website that the people of Flanders are selfish and afraid of the unknown religions that swamp our country. In particular Islam.

Why shouldn’t we be? It has taken us centuries to get where we want to be and in those centuries we finally have freed ourselves from the yoke of organized religion and have moved on with great strides because of it. Now you want us to accept that another religion comes over here and as guests force us, the host country, to accept a backwards and dangerous theocracy. This religion is the greatest danger the western world has ever faced and if unchecked will force their outdated worldviews on us. Does it not worry you that they call our women whores when they dress in ways Islam does not accept? Is it not OUR country? Does it not worry you that most violent protests are perpetrated by this section of citizens? Do you not see that they have nothing but contempt for our laws, for our lifestyle, for our culture? You of all people as minister of culture should take action.

Do you as minister of culture want to preserve the inheritance of  our forefathers? Or would you rather roll over and surrender to a foreign influence who are trying to make sure that the western world will be dragged back into the middle ages? And this time, it will take a lot longer to climb out from that abyss.

Your fellow ministers have ensured that our own people have become second class citizens in their own country by threatening with fines and jail terms anyone who speaks out against this state of affairs. People are afraid to be branded racists because they disagree with this section of the population. Does it not worry you that known Islamic terrorists live amongst us and even draw welfare from the Belgian state? Will you ever wake up and admit that the two assassins who killed Shah Mashoud in Afghanistan just a day before 9/11 were two Islamic immigrants who had obtained Belgian citizenship because of  political cowards who bow to the Islamic worlds whims.

My Great-Grandfather fought in the trenches of WW1 and fought 4 years to save his beloved country. My Grandfather was forced into a concentration camp of the Nazis in WW2 as forced labor. Does their sacrifice mean nothing to you? If the answer is no, then you have my unbridled contempt. But what can we expect of a politician anyway besides cowardice, lies, and self-serving hypocrisy.

The people of this country have time and time again seen for themselves that Islamic youths kill, maim, rob, and disrupt this society and all they get for it is a slap on the wrist. We have our share of homegrown criminals, but it is a fact, and don’t even try to deny it, that our jails are filled to overflowing with people who use this country as a place to live but who show allegiance to another.

Why is it that they are allowed to import their struggles and wars over here and smash and burn parts of Antwerp and Brussels and other cities? We have nothing to do with what happens in Gaza. But on the news it was treated as if it was of no consequence.

Just a few days ago there was a march of 7000 of our citizens as a quiet protest against the horrors of the attack against a daycare center. Amazingly enough, not a single piece of property was destroyed during that march.

And we were treated to a nauseating spectacle of government ministers, yourself included, who exploited this tragedy for their own selfish political means.

This multicultural society you praise so highly and try to force on us is an abject failure. Why are Belgians called before a court if they mistreat their spouses but not them? Why is it accepted that they can get away with the unequal treatment of women while it clearly states in our laws that this is forbidden? Why are they allowed to chant Anti Jewish and Anti Christian Slogans without fear of prosecution, while if one of our own is even suspected of harboring such thoughts is hauled before court so fast his feet won’t even touch the ground?

Be a minister of Culture and put your money where your mouth is. It is OUR culture, not theirs. And if they can’t live with that they should leave. Tell them to use the option of free choice we provide. The choice to leave.

As Minister of Youth, finally do something you are paid for and either educate or punish these youths that terrorize our society. Ours as well as theirs.

Make no mistake, we are indeed heading to an “ours” and “theirs” society.

They are discriminating against us every hour of every day. Using our women as toys while prohibiting our own people from associating with theirs.

It has become clear to me in the span of a few years that anyone in Belgian politics is not at all interested in solving our peoples problems but instead are only in filling their pockets and freeloading at our expense.

It is true that not all Muslims are terrorists, but it is also FACT that most terrorist actions are perpetrated by Muslims. It is FACT that the majority of terrorist organizations on the blacklist are Muslim. Do you care to deny that? You and your ilk have lost touch not only with reality but with the very people you claim to represent, your countrymen and women.

Let me be perfectly clear here. You do NOT tell me what to do, you do Not tell me who to like, you do NOT tell me how to live my own life. I am who I am and I will always say it as I see it, and not you nor these bunch of incompetents in government will EVER silence me. You are welcome to try. You know where to find me.

'Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, 'Common Sense', who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouth wash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement ...

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust. His wife, Discretion, his daughter, Responsibility, his son, Reason.
He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;   I Know My Rights; I Want It Now; Someone Else Is To Blame; I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Today, exactly 90 years ago, on the 11th day of the 11th month at 11am the guns of the most devastating war up to that point came to an end.

It was also the day my great grandfather Charles could finally stick his head out of the trenches without getting it blown off.

He entered the war on the 4^th of August 1914 aged 28, and lived through hell on earth, and mostly under it, until this day in 1918. After more than 4 years of whistling death from everywhere the guns fell silent.

My ancestor lived to tell his tale. And tell it he did, mostly to me, but also to anyone who cared enough. He lived well into the

20^th century, passing on in 1971 having been knighted for his services and sacrifices by his country.

On this day, the 11^th of November, I make my own private pilgrimage to the cemeteries of  Flanders Fields. And there are many. They dot the landscape of Flanders.

I drive to villages and towns with legendary names: Passendale, Ypres, Ploegsteert, Mons etc...

I visit the places where so many lives were lost. Cemeteries with row upon row of headstones. Some with the inscription “known unto God” or “a soldier of the Great War”.

Some are small with a few hundred graves smack in the middle of plowed fields, some are huge like Tyne Cot with its 12000 headstones and 35000 names of the missing engraved on huge panels. Some in peaceful surroundings like Polygon Wood, and many, many more. They are all over the previous front line. Silent sentinels to remind us not to forget, never to forget. But most do.

The world forgets the sacrifices they made. Just like they forget the last World War, just over 20 years after the slaughter of “The war to end all wars”.

I stood at Menin Gate in Ypres and saw the thousands upon thousands of names of those who have no known grave. I stood at the Vietnam Memorial too. I was at Roarks Drift and the Battle site of Ishlandwana battlefields in South Africa. I was at Bastogne and Waterloo.

And most forget. Just as always. They forget that it is because of those boys and men we can now live the way we like. It is because of them we can sleep peacefully. Think about them when you drive to work tomorrow with your cell phone in one hand and a mug of steaming coffee in the other. And when you see a soldier, don’t spit on him, but thank him, for he is willing to do what others fear to do or don’t want to do.
